Project’27 - Running the South West Coast Path.
A bit about me - I am Ami, I would describe myself as an average ultra runner. I really enjoy the longer distances, I’m not particularly fast, but I like to think I’ve got a high pain tolerance and I love to push myself. I had the idea for this challenge at the tail end of 2024, and have since made the project just a touch harder by becoming a mum. But I don’t want that to define or stop me. Plus it’s all good sleep deprivation training anyway…
The aim is to complete the path in one go, supported by friends and family, with adventure at the heart and the purpose of fundraising for The Brain Tumour Charity and Macmillan. The adventure is in memory of Dad, Steve, who loved the outdoors and supported me in all my endeavours until he passed away in 2023.
The South West Coast Path
The idea began whilst training for the South Downs Way 50, listening to Nick Butter describe his epic run around the UK coastline. On a trail in Copenhagen, I reached the part where Nick was running on the South West Coast Path; the end of the path is a part of the UK coastline I know well, having visited many times over the years, often with Dad. I thought to myself, “why couldn’t I do that?!” and sent a message to my good friend James to put forth the idea.
Since then, the seed of the idea has taken root, and I decided to use it as an opportunity to fundraise for two charities close to my heart: The Brain Tumour Charity, and Macmillan. My Dad, an adventurous man with a kind heart, passed away after a glioblastoma diagnosis in 2023. He’s missed dearly, but to keep his spirit alive, I will be running in his memory. He was a feature at almost every race I ran, and my number 1 supporter. I’m sure, were he still here, he’d be driving my support vehicle and telling me that what I was doing is just “character building” in the tough moments.
